The Brooklyn Brewery Mash — a weekend-long celebration of music, art, food and beer at various cities around the world — returns to Austin in November with four fun events planned.
Tickets for each of the events have gone on sale today and range between $20 and $40 (with one event completely free with RSVP).
Based in New York, Brooklyn Brewery has been offering the Mash as a way of exploring vibrant communities across the globe, well beyond its East Coast headquarters. For this year’s festivities, the brewery “takes a re-imagined look at four time-honored celebrations: the meal, the beer festival, the bar crawl and the concert,” according to a press release.
The Brooklyn Brewery Mash will be in Austin from Nov. 10-13, featuring Brooklyn Brewery’s Chef Andrew Gerson and Brooklyn Brewery’s Beer Education and Community Ambassador Gabe Barry, along with local chefs, musicians and breweries.
And for fans of Brooklyn Brewery, it’ll be the chance to try some beers that normally never cross our lips in Texas.
“We dug deep into our cellar of experimental and rare beers, our coveted Ghost Bottles, with the hope of pleasing the weird, wild Austin we know and love so well,” Barry said. “Without spoiling any secrets, do your best to imagine Belgian-influenced beers meeting sake lees and mezcal barrels, old favorites that simply don’t exist, as well as the continual balance of beers that whisper tradition meets innovation that makes Brooklyn Brewery who we are.”
Here are the four Brooklyn Brewery Mash events where we might stumble across such treats.
Thursday, Nov. 10
Dinner with Friends at Italic: Gerson is teaming up with the Italian restaurant Italic to create a special one-off menu paired with some of those rare Brooklyn beers that Barry hinted at. The feast starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40.
Friday, Nov. 11
Lee Fields and the Expressions, presented by Timberland: A free concert at the Mohawk? Try and turn that down. Lee Fields & the Expressions will headline the Timberland-produced show, with Amasa Hines and Mama K and the Shades opening. Brooklyn Brewery will have special deals on its canned beers. The show kicks off at 8 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 12
Beer Mansion: Choose your own adventure through different styles of beer, which will be represented in separate rooms at the Chick Ranch events space in East Austin. Both Brooklyn Brewery and local breweries — including Hops & Grain, Last Stand Brewing, Austin Beerworks and more — will showcase their suds.
- Barrel-Aging Room: Barry will share the magic of barrels with us by offering tastes of Brooklyn Brewery’s most experimental beers
- IPA Room: Love dank, bitter and tropical flavors? These will be spotlighted with pours from Austin breweries and Brooklyn as well.
- Saison Room: Learn how to pair beer and food together with advice from Gerson, who will also share “the secrets behind one of his most tactile dishes,” according to the release.
The $20 tickets get you access to these rooms and more from 5 to 9 p.m.; there will also be live music, games, virtual reality tours and a Cholula Hot Sauce tasting bar.
Sunday, Nov. 13
East Sixth Neighborhood Immersion: Brooklyn Brewery and Timberland are collaborating for this roving neighborhood party — reminiscent of ones the brewery has done closer to home — that will start at a pop-up shop and bar called the Trailhead for a taste of some Ghost Bottles.
The $20 tickets will then allow you to grab Brooklyn brews at the Rhino Room, the Brew & Brew, the Liberty and Rio Rita, as well as lunch at Waller Creek Pub House, Kebablicious or Hi Hat Public House. The event starts at 1 p.m., and your vouchers for beer will be valid through 6 p.m.
